Updated 5/27/11, at 11:05pm – Wow. Okay, a lot can happen in the span of a few hours. Late today we received a Memorial Day weekend challenge from an anonymous donor. You can read more about this special challenge here. Our donor really wants to help and has offered us a new match. We have a total of $1,669.38 to go before we reach our fundraising goal. Updated 5/27/11: Thanks to some really generous peeps (check out our Honor Roll on Facebook), we’ve hit an important milestone – $22K. Just $3K to go before the end of the month. If you’re group has been collecting funds this month, please help us now to get closer to our goal. We need you!

Friends, this updated appeal went out to our email list yesterday. Since then we’ve had some very kind folks (THANK YOU to ALL!) send in gifts, bringing our fundraising goal closer to $25K. As of this writing we have raised $21,073.36, with just $3,926.63 to go! We have a week to do it. Will you help?

Big thanks to each of you who reclaimed Mother’s Day this year by honoring deserving moms with your gifts of diapering babies in need. We are deeply honored by your support in helping us raise a $20,213.37 already. We are just $4,786.63 away from reaching our goal of $25K before May 31st. If you’ve been lurking and haven’t made your May gift already, now is the time to help! Or, if you already made your gift, but want to chip in an extra special somethin-somethin you can do that too!

If we reach our $25K goal, Huggies has offered us a matching grant of 100,000 diapers. That’s A LOT of diapers that could be put to good use!

Here’s just one reason how:

On a sunny Saturday “Vivian” was at the grocery store, faced with an impossible decision while in the baby food isle with her granddaughter “Jessica.” Vivian had recently become the primary caregiver of baby Jessica and the unexpected costs of caring for a baby were weighing heavily on her heart. In one hand she had a pack of diapers, in the other hand a can of infant formula. She only had enough money to buy one of those items. Then she remembered hearing that her local food pantry gave out diapers to moms. Right there in the grocery store Vivian called the number to to food pantry at the Bayview Mission to find out if she could get help with emergency diapers.

Baby Jessica did not have to go without the basics that day because our supporters were there for Vivian at that crucial time. We want to be there for many more babies this summer and YOU can help.

To raise the $4,786.63 we need:

• 1 spectacular fairy godmother to contribute the lump sum; or
• 10 people to contribute $478.63; or
• 25 people to contribute $191.47; or
• 50 people to contribute $95.73; or
• 100 people to contribute $47.87; or
• 239 people to contribute $20.01

100% of the funds we collect will be put towards our Safety Net Fund, helping us effectively address diaper need through our diaper distribution network. And as a small, pull up your boot straps, mom-run organization, you can be assured that we’ll make your dollar holler.

It’s a true testament to the generosity of all of YOU in this amazing community that we’ve been able to be there for countless caregivers and children like Vivian and baby Jessica. We will be sure to keep you posted on whether we reach our $25K goal by May 31st and (cross fingers!) get that matching grant of 100K Huggies diapers.
