Daniel Kelly

Dan Kelly worked as the Director of Planning for the City and County of San Francisco’s Human Service Agency for over twenty years.  Among his accomplishments, Dan conducted research that was an early catalyst in the rebuilding of the city’s public housing for families.  He also found innovative ways to use data to make the city more inclusive for low-income families, leading to initiatives like Museums for All, which made most of San Francisco’s museums free or low-cost for persons on Medi-Cal.  He now works as a retiree developing policy for San Francisco’s Juvenile Probation Department. Prior to public sector service, Dan worked with various non-profits -- as an outreach worker with  homeless families,  caseworker, counselor, and pre-school teacher. He has a profound admiration for single mothers who swim against the tides of poverty to raise their children. Dan has a Master’s of Public Administration from San Francisco State University, and after retiring, he completed a Master’s in History degree.  His thesis concerned the emergence of the nation’s first mother’s pension program after the 1906 earthquake.  Dan spends his spare time reading and trying to coax his wife of forty-three years and his adult son to come along on history-hikes in the Southwest and South Pacific.
